About Serpentine Lake

Serpentine Lake is an artificial lake created in 1730 in Hyde Park in London and has a surface area of 16.2 ha. On the southern bank, a lido is open in summer for swimming. The lake itself has long been used for swimming, with regular events organised by the Serpentine Swimming Club. The triathlon and marathon swimming events during the London 2012 Olympics were also held here. Rowing and pedal boats are available for hire and solar powered ferries carry visitors between the north and southern banks from April to 31 October. There is also a bridge over the lake. Amongst the many activities available locally, the Serpentine Gallery (for contemporary art) is on the southern bank and the Diana, Princess of Wales Memorial Fountain is another popular visitor attraction.
