About Loch Duddingston

Loch Duddingston is the single natural lake located below Arthur's Seat, in Holyrood Park, Edinburgh, Scotland. It makes part of a nature reserve, being significant for wildfowl, herons and the great crested grebe, as well as swans and ducks. It used to be a well known rendezvous for skaters, with the Edinburgh Skating Club. Its maximinum depth reaches 3 m (9.8 feet). Perch, pike, carp and roach can be found in the lake. Proof has been discovered that there was an island village built on piles in Duddingston Loch and it is thought that this was the source of the many bronze age weapons that were discovered in 1778.
