About Danbury Country Park

Set within the grounds of Danbury Palace, around 6.4 km (4 mi) from Chelmsford, this country park has ornamental gardens featuring fantastic displays of rhododendrons, three lakes and woodland and meadows to explore. A former mediaeval deer park, it covers over 41 acres in total.

Day fishing on the lakes is available by permit, but swimming is prohibited. The ornamental gardens are teeming with flowers and butterflies in summer and there is also a wildflower meadow. Several short waymarked walks run around the site and picnicking and relaxing is popular here.
